Choosing the Right Absorbency
Underpads come in different absorbency levels. The right one depends on how much leakage you expect and how long the pad needs to stay in place.
Moderate absorbency may work for occasional or moderate leaks. Heavy absorbency is better for larger leaks or for people who spend long periods sitting or lying down. Overnight absorbency is designed for heavier nighttime use or extended protection.
Selecting the Right Size
Common underpad sizes include 23" x 36" and 30" x 30", though other sizes are available. Smaller pads may work well for chairs, wheelchairs or car seats. Larger pads may be better for beds, couches or situations where the person moves around during sleep.
If the pad is too small, leaks can run off the edge and reach the surface underneath. If it's much larger than needed, it may bunch up or feel uncomfortable. Choose a size that covers the area most likely to get wet, with a little extra room for movement.
